The projects “Popular Music and the Rise of Populism in Europe” (2019–2021) and “Popular Music and the Rise of Populism in Europe During the Corona Crisis” (2021–2022) are funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. Our empirical research projects explore the role of popular music in the rise of populism in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Sweden from a comparative perspective. Our project is a cooperation between the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany), the Scuola Normale Superiore, Florence (Italy), the University of Groningen (Netherlands), the Budapest University of Technology (Hungary) and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria).
